Day of Service

February 15, 2013, Anne M. Dorner Middle School, Ossining, NY

On February 15, 2013 we CSTEP, CSTEP and IBM (International Business Machine Corporation) hosted Day of Service at the Anne M. Dorner middle school in Ossining. The purpose of this event is to expose students who are not currently in STEP to the STEM related fields and license profession through hands on activities. Over a 1000 students participated in the event with 29 professionals from IBM. The IBM professionals worked as a team conducting activities such as Paper Bridge, Puff mobile, Paper Tower, and ALICE programming in classrooms for the entire school day. There was also a mentoring session between IBM staff and students where students were given the opportunity to speak to them individually regarding how technology plays a role in their daily lives.Students were excited, engaged and thoroughly enjoyed the activities.
