Significant Professional or Academic Accomplishments:
During his undergraduate years, Kevin Purcell participated
in the Summer Medical and Dental Education Program at UMDNJ
after his first year and the AMP/CSTEP Summer Research Program
after his sophomore year working with Dr. Jennifer Waldo (Biology)
on a project titled, “Recombinant Expression of Sub-Complexes
of Candida Albicans Kinetochore DASH Complexes”.
He was active in many student organizations, Student Association,
his fraternity Omega Psi Phi and in his community. He also
served as a peer mentor through the Scholars Mentorship Program,
co-founded a high school mentoring program called Get Up&
Get Out, and was a Resident Assistant for three years.
Kevin graduated in 2010 and continued his studies at Stony
Brook University where he completed his master’s degree
the following year. He then went on to SUNY Downstate Medical
Center for his MPH.His program concluded with fieldwork in
summer 2013 taking him to South Africa. Kevin began his first
year of medical school at Wright State University in Dayton,
Ohio in August 2013.
